Turquoise Lake Turquoise Lake was named for the discovery of this semiprecious rock in the area. Used as a reservoir since 1962, it is located west of Leadville and takes up 1,800 acres of surface area. Visitors can enjoy picnicking, camping, hiking, and fishing. At 10,000 ft in elevation, prepare for cool weather even in the summer. To get there, follow Harrison Avenue to West Sixth Street.
