    Turquoise Lake
    Turquoise Lake was named for the discovery of this semiprecious rock in the area. Used as a reservoir since 1962, it is located west of Leadville and takes up 1,800 acres of surface area. Visitors can enjoy picnicking, camping, hiking, and fishing. At 10,000 ft in elevation, prepare for cool weather even in the summer. To get there, follow Harrison Avenue to West Sixth Street. Make a right at County Road 4 at the "T" and drive to County Road 9, which circles around the lake.

    Arkansas River
    The Arkansas River flows through Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Beginning in the Rockies of Colorado, near Leadville, the Arkansas River is a popular place for whitewater rafting. Connecting to the Mississippi River near Napolean, Arkansas, the Arkansas River runs for about 1450 mi (2334 km) and is the fourth longest river in the United States.
